Six months after a Toyota customer bought their car, a random number were selected by Toyota to be interviewed about what they liked and disliked about their new car.
They were interviewed in person and asked about a number of things like noise and comfort levels, the feel of the fabrics used and so on.
This information was used to make changes and improvements to their line of cars during that model run.
Their goal was to offer Americans the most satisfying car buying experience possible.
At the same time, Detroit's attitude was "they will buy what we decide to give ‘em".
